Federal leaders' debate: What's in it for Toronto?

What will Thursday night's federal leaders' debate hold for Toronto? Mayor John Tory, for one, is hoping to hear about funding for expanding public transit, more affordable housing and improving infrastructure.

Stephen Harper, Tom Mulcair, Justin Trudeau and Elizabeth May will square off at 8 p.m. ET in the first leaders' debate of the 11-week federal election campaign.

Tory's spokeswoman, Keerthana Kamalavasan, said the mayor is paying close attention to the election.

"The mayor has three priorities he will be keeping his eye on during the federal election: consistent, stable funding for transit, affordable housing and infrastructure," Kamalavasan said.

Both Harper and Mulcair have already pledged funding that could benefit Tory's SmartTrack plan.

Trudeau, meanwhile, has put forward policy recommendations for an affordable national housing strategy.

All three leaders have campaigned extensively in the GTA, a populous region that could decide who wins the election.

You can watch tonight's debate, which is being hosted by Maclean's magazine, on City in English, on CPAC in English and French and on OMNI in Italian, Punjabi, Mandarin and Cantonese. The debate will also be available online on YouTube.
