Fendi Featured Two Curve Models In Their Fall/Winter 2020 Runway Show

One of the most anticipated shows of Milan Fashion Week was without a doubt the debut of Fendi's Fall/Winter 2020 collection and for the occasion, the brand showed for the first time that size inclusivity is on their radar (a topic that's still foreign to many high fashion brands).

On February 20, Fendi, which continuously puts gorgeous looks down the runway season after season, decide to include two curve models on the runway to the shock (and pleasure) of many in attendance.

Plus-size trailblazer Paloma Elsesser was one of them, dressed in a belted mute yellow overcoat with black accessories. The other was Jill Kortleve, a lesser-known curve model, who was dressed in a fitted black dress that screamed iconic Fendi.

Backstage at the show, Silvia Fendi was asked by Vogue about the inclusive of nontraditional runway bodies in the show. "It’s liberating for me to portray these clothes in a different way, on different sizes. Especially because you talk to me and I am not really a prototype of that shape,” she said.

Of course, only having two curve models (who, for reference, are still much smaller than the average size of an American woman) is not a huge leap towards size inclusivity, especially when over 50 models were used in the show. However, considering the fact that European shows are known for prizing size inclusivity much less than its American counterpart, this is certainly a notable moment and, hopefully, it sparks a change for the brand and Milan Fashion Week as a whole going forward.
