Man dies of suspected fentanyl overdose in South Osborne

A man is dead and a woman was brought to hospital after police were called to an overdose on Saturday, which may have been fentanyl-related.

Police were called to the 400 block of Osborne Street around 1 p.m. to reports of an individual who may have overdosed.

When officers arrived they found a man dead and a woman was sent to hospital to be treated for a possible overdose.

Officers also found a powder which was consistent with fentanyl or carfentanil in the apartment, police said.

The officers were brought to hospital as a precaution.

"Fentanyl dangers remain a high priority for our service. Fentanyl concerns haven't lessened at all, it still remains consistent for us — the amount of fentanyl we see in the city," said police spokesperson Const. Jay Murray.

"We are very concerned whenever we hear of incidents like this."
