Fentanyl found in truck after Sacramento man dies in Highway 70 rollover crash, CHP says
A Sacramento man killed in a single-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning in rural Yuba County is believed to have been under the influence of alcohol and fentanyl, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The unidentified driver lost control of a 2006 Toyota Tacoma around 1:10 a.m. while traveling on southbound Highway 70 near Sparrow Lane, the CHP’s Yuba-Sutter office said in a news release.
The Toyota veered off the roadway, struck an attenuator barrel and overturned multiple times before landing on its wheels in an orchard, CHP officials wrote.
The driver, described as a 41-year-old Sacramento man, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected during the crash, suffering fatal injuries at the scene, according to the news release. The lone passenger was “partially” restrained via seat belt and was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Investigating officers “located fentanyl and numerous alcoholic beverage containers inside and near the wrecked vehicle,” the news release said. Alcohol and drugs are both believed to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
The deceased victim’s identity will be released by Yuba County coroner’s officials pending notification of family.
