Fiery crash on I-95 in Miami-Dade kills one. BMW driver flees scene, FHP investigating
A deadly crash on I-95 in Miami-Dade early Saturday morning left one person dead, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred around 4:10 a.m. on the southbound lanes of I-95, just south of NW 79th Street. A dark blue BMW sedan, traveling in the outside lane, rear-ended a gold Nissan sedan. Both vehicles continued for several hundred feet before coming to a stop in the outside lanes, FHP Lt Alex Camacho said.
The impact caused the Nissan to burst into flames, trapping the driver inside. By the time Miami-Dade Fire Rescue extinguished the fire, the driver had died at the scene, according to Camacho.
The driver of the BMW was not present when FHP arrived and is believed to have fled the scene on foot. Authorities are investigating the incident.
The fire’s intensity caused damage to the roadway, requiring repairs and a temporary closure.
