FINA Diving World Series preparations underway in Windsor

Divers from around the world are descending on Windsor for this weekend's FINA World Series diving competition.

Members of Team Canada held their first practice session Monday at the downtown aquatic centre.

Several of the team members are Olympians and they are expected to compete at the 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janeiro.

Olympic Medallist Roseline Filion is looking forward to the meet.

"We're in Canada, we want to perform our best in front of a home crowd and families are coming down," she said. "So it's really exciting to have one of the highest level of competition in our home country."

Several athletes told CBC they like the $80-million downtown aquatic centre. The coaches and team staff are pleased, too.

"We have to take our hats off to the crew here in Windsor in that they really welcome us with open arms," said Mitch Geller, chief diving officer for Diving Canada.

FINA diving fun begins this Friday at 11:30 a.m., and continues through Sunday.

For the first time in any diving competition , spectators will be able to use their smart phones to score the divers..and compare their scores to the judges.
