Finance Minister Ross Wiseman leaving politics

After 15 years in the House of Assembly, Finance Minister Ross Wiseman has announced he is leaving provincial politics.

Wiseman made the announcement at a PC social event at the White Hills Ski Resort Thursday night, reportedly surprising those in attendance.

Wiseman said that he will step down once the writ is dropped for the Nov. 30 provincial election.

The MHA for Trinity North, Wiseman was first elected as a Liberal in a 2000 byelection, before crossing the floor one year later.

In September 2014 he was appointed finance minister by outgoing premier Tom Marshall.

During his time in government, Wiseman has served in various roles, including Speaker of the House, Minister of Health, and Minister of Environment.
