SINGAPORE — Two men got into a fight after one of them refused to move his dogs away from the other’s wife.

Ng Lai Beng, 59, and Lee Muhammad Johan Razali Lee, 35, fought in front of their respective wives at the ground floor of a block in Fernvale in June this year.

The business development manager was fined $2,000 on one count of affray, which he pleaded guilty to on Monday (6 December). Another two counts of using criminal force and abusive words in another incident against another man were taken into consideration for his sentencing.

Separately, Lee was also given a conditional warning.

On 27 June, Ng, a Singaporean, and his wife were waiting for the lift with their two leashed dogs at the ground floor lift lobby of a block along Fernvale Road.

Lee and his wife were in the lift when it opened to reveal Ng, his wife and the two canines. Lee asked Ng to move his dogs further away as his wife was afraid of dogs. However, Ng refused as he felt that there was enough room for the pair to walk through.

The two began to argue, with Ng pushing Lee on the chest. Ng passed the dogs to his wife before punching Lee’s face.

A scuffle ensued and only ended when Ng’s wife called the police at about 2.28pm. The police later arrested both Ng and Lee, who suffered superficial injuries.

In mitigation, Ng said that Lee had kept scolding him upon seeing the dogs. He had committed the offence on a moment of impulse and truly regretted his actions, he added.

Ng could have been jailed up to one year, or fined up to $5,000, or both, for affray.
