Fire causes significant damage to Bayers Road home

No one was injured but an early morning fire significantly damaged a home in Halifax's west end on Friday.

A woman was home when the fire started in the small house, but she made it out safely.

Chuck Bezanson, division commander for Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency, said firefighters were called to the home on Bayers Road where it meets Romans Avenue shortly before 6 a.m. on Friday.

"Crews were here very quickly, it was very close to the station," he said.

Bezanson said it looks as though the fire started in the basement, but the cause is still under investigation.

"The fire went out very quickly. Significant damage inside, pretty much to all floors," he said.

Several fire trucks responded to the fire.

The outbound lane of Bayers Road near Romans Avenue was blocked for a more than an hour Friday morning.
