The P.E.I. fire marshal's office is investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a home on Riverview Crescent in Vernon Bridge Monday morning.

No one was seriously injured but the single-family home is a complete loss, according to the Vernon River Fire Department.

Three people — two adults and a child — have been displaced. Red Cross volunteers are assisting the family with emergency lodging, clothing, food and other basic needs.

One man was briefly treated in hospital before being released without serious injuries.

Officials say crews were called to the scene at about 8:14 a.m. Flames could be seen coming out of the roof of the home a short time later.

Trucks from Crossroads and Vernon River fire departments were on scene, as well as an ambulance and police cruisers.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
