A motel on the outskirts of North Battleford was destroyed by a fire on Monday night.

At about 10:00 p.m. fire crews were called to the Best Canadian Motor Inn, located along the Highway 16 bypass.

Wind gusts up to 47 km/h contributed to "adverse response conditions," the city says.

The city says the fire caused a two hour long power outage for residents across North Battleford because an electrical housing of a main transmission line caught fire. Power was restored later that night.

The City of North Battleford said in a news release on Monday that an investigation is underway into the cause of the fire.

North Battleford Fire Department and RCMP evacuated people from the motel, and only minor injuries of evacuated people and first responders were reported by the city.

On Monday, the city said the fire department would investigate the cause of the fire, including a secondary search of the motel.
