Fire that destroyed Fort Good Hope, N.W.T., home deemed suspicious
The RCMP say a fire that destroyed a vacant house in Fort Good Hope, N.W.T., Tuesday is considered suspicious.
The fire destroyed the two-storey home, but firefighters prevented it from spreading to the nearby wooded area and other houses.
The community's fire department arrived at the house at about 4 a.m.
"The first thing I noticed when I arrived on scene is that the house was fully engulfed in flames," said Douglas Louison, Fort Good Hope's fire chief.
"It was under renovation so nobody was in the home," he said.
RCMP say two other incidents were also reported in the overnight hours between Oct. 5-6, including a break-in at the Yamoga Land Corporation and an attempted break and enter at the community health centre.
Both of the incidents are under investigation, but police say there is no evidence at this time to suggest they're related to the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
