Fire destroys home in Foxtrap, no injuries sustained

The Conception Bay South Fire Department responded to a house fire on Greelytown Road in Foxtrap Saturday afternoon.

Capt. John Heffernan said the call came in around 12:30 p.m.

When crews arrived, Heffernan said the home was already engulfed in flames.

"We adopted a defensive attack and, once on scene, we confirmed that there was no one inside — the occupants were all elsewhere at the time of the fire and we just carried on with knocking the fire down," said Heffernan.

"I confirmed no residents, everybody was clear, no pets, everybody was elsewhere at the time of the fire so we were just dealing strictly with a house and materials," he said.

By 4:30 p.m., crews were still on scene putting out hot spots as they flared up.

Heffernan said the cause of fire has yet to be determined, since crews were unable to enter the home due to the degree of the fire.

Firefighters and the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary will maintain a watch throughout much of Saturday night to keep an eye on possible flare-ups.
