A fire festival unlike any other

People in Nejapa, El Salvador took part in a celebratory festival featuring a unique event: a fireball fight. Organizers drenched thousands of rags in gasoline and lit them on fire for participants to hurl at each other. The traditional festival is meant to commemorate the 1658 volcanic eruption that caused Nejapa residents to evacuate from the town, though the origins have taken on religious meaning as well.
