Fire in northwest Calgary suite sends woman to hospital

One person has been taken to hospital in serious condition after a residential fire in northwest Calgary.

The fire started in the kitchen of a suite in a building in the 3700 block of 42nd Street N.W Wednesday afternoon.

A woman was found unconscious inside the suite with serious burns and suffering from smoke inhalation. She was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition.

Investigators are determining the exact location and cause of the fire, said Carol Henke, fire department spokeswoman.

Firefighters managed to contain the damage to the one suite in the four-storey building.
