A fire has caused more than $1 million in damages to the small town of La Rédemption, just east of Rimouski.
The fire destroyed the municipal garage, fire hall, as well as all municipal vehicles and equipment.
The call was received around 8 p.m. Thursday night and firefighters from six municipalities responded.
"When we arrived, flames had engulfed fire station and about 50 per cent of the building next door," said Jonathan Brunet, fire department director for the municipality of de la Mitis.
The fire forced the evacuation of about a dozen homes because of fears that several fuel reservoirs could explode.
There were no reported injuries.
The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.
The community is home to 432 people, according to 2016 census data.
