Fire rips through derelict village lodge

Fire crews have worked overnight to put out a fire at a derelict lodge in a Dorset village.

The fire at Cattistock Lodge on Newton Road, Cattistock, broke out at the two-storey stone building on Monday shortly before 22:45 GMT.

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said five crews were sent along with an aerial ladder platform and two water carriers.

The fire service said the fire was out shortly after 02:00 and the cause was under investigation.

The building is also set to be inspected by the fire service and Dorset Council due to concerns over its stability.

The fire service said: "Please remain clear of the area due to the dangerous state of the building."

The lodge has seen a number of planning applications submitted in recent years to turn it into multiple homes, but none have come to fruition.
