Fire rips through northwest Calgary home

Fire tore through a home in northwest Calgary on Monday morning.

The garage of the house on the 100-block of Hampstead Terrace was gutted.

"My wife started yelling at me that the neighbour's house was on fire," said next-door neighbour Mark Decoux-Cozzi. "I came outside thinking I could do something with my garden hose. Clearly that wasn't going to work."

He says it looks like the fire started in the garage.

"I'm happy to say it was contained," said Decoux-Cozzi.

"The firefighters did a great job. They got here quickly. They minimized the damage and it could have been much, much worse."

The fire department was not available to comment on the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage.
