Fire in Russian Coal Mine Leaves at Least 11 Dead

At least 11 people were killed in a fire that broke out in a coal mine in southwest Siberia on November 25, Russia’s Tass News Agency said.

The local government said an alert was sent after smoke was seen coming from the Listvyazhnaya coal mine in Gramoteino on Thursday morning.

Around 239 people were brought to the surface by rescuers at the scene, Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations said in a statement on Telegram. Over 30 remained underground, latest reports said, while 43 miners were taken to hospital.
