Fire at wedding shop deliberately set

A fire was deliberately set at an Edmonton wedding supply store overnight Friday causing about $450,000 in damage.

Emergency crews responded to a call at ABC Weddings at 118 Avenue and 104 Street at around 2:30 Friday.

Although the fire was quickly contained, there was smoke and water damage to the store’s merchandise and rental supplies.

“We’ve had one bride come down here this morning already and she was in tears not for her wedding but she was more concerned about us it seems that in this industry we get to know our customers over a longer time,” said store owner Wayne Demkiw.

He says that he does not believe anyone’s wedding is in jeopardy due to damage, but says that it will take the weekend to clean up.

Laura Ruddock, spokesperson for Edmonton Fire Rescue confirmed that the fire was deliberately set in two different areas of the building.

The investigation is ongoing.
