Firefighters throw a few jabs as they rescue police stuck in elevator

The public often counts on the police in dangerous situations, but who rescues the police when they need help?

In the case of the Kansas City Police Department, the answer is the fire department.

It was a regular day at the Kansas City Police Academy, when one of the elevators unexpectedly malfunctioned, trapping 12 officers inside. The Kansas City Fire Department raced to the rescue, freeing everyone inside without any complications, reports Fox 4 Kansas City.

Of course, it couldn’t just end there. The rescuers weren’t going to let the cops get away without a little good-natured teasing.

“We had a lot of fun with them and we made sure everything happened safely and we did it all the way it’s supposed to be done,” said firefighter Tony Pisciotta. “They were good sports about it and we threw our jabs. It was cool.”

But what really got the social media engines percolating was a photo tweeted out by Gregg Favre from the St. Louis Fire Department, revealing the amusing pivotal moment of the rescue.

This isn’t the first time firefighters have bailed out their boys in blue. Back in 2013, the Fire Department of New York received an unusual call. It seemed a police officer was stuck in a tree, having attempted to rescue a cat stuck in a tree. According to Gawker, when the firefighters did arrive, they didn’t exactly jump into action.

“They all gathered around and laughed at him,” said one witness. “They took their time just crowding around.” Eventually both cat and officer were rescued.

It seems that firefighters are happy to rescue police officers. Perhaps a little too happy.
