Fires cause $80K damage to house, garages

A fire in a two-car garage in the 100 block of Aikins Street caused $20,000 in damage.

Winnipeg fire crews were busy putting out two North End garage fires early Monday.

One of them caused an estimated $20,000 in damage to a double-car garage in the 100 block of Aikins Street, while about six blocks away, in the 300 block of Alfred Avenue, a single-car garage had about $10,000 in damage.

Those fires followed one that broke out late Sunday night in the 200 block of Blake Street, in the city's Weston area.

Six people made it safely out of the house before fire crews arrived.

The fire started in the porch at the back of the house and caused an estimated $50,000 in damage.

All three fires are under investigation.
