First Dates' own barman Merlin Griffiths was in a mischievous mood in Thursday's episode (February 20) of the Channel 4 show.
Before pharmaceutical manager Helen arrived for her date, the barman suggested playing a trick on her.
Speaking to her date Rosco, who happens to be an award-winning bartender who rubs shoulders with the rich and famous, Merlin proposed that they switched places so he could serve her first drink.
"Shall we have a little fun with this?" Merlin asked Rosco. "I'll get you behind up here. She's going to come in. She's going to think she's the first one here, and she's waiting for you for her date, and you can serve her first drink."
So, as an unassuming Helen turned up, Rosco – behind the bar – asked her if she was excited about her date and offered to serve her a drink.
After Helen asked him for a gin, Rosco said: "I'll get the barman to serve it to you because I'm actually your date."
"Oh God," she said as she put her head in her hands, which probably wasn't the reaction he was after.
However, the two of them happened to hit things off and, at the end of their date, admitted that they wanted to see each again.
Not only that, but at the end of the episode, it was revealed that the two of them are still dating each other.
So there you go: if you want to meet someone, just pretend to be something you're not.
First Dates continues next Thursday (February 27) at 9pm on Channel 4.
