Gareth Bale has stepped up his rehabilitation on the training ground ahead of his second Tottenham debut.

The Wales international completed his sensational return to north London in September, joining the club on a season-long loan deal from Real Madrid.

A knee injury suffered on international duty last month has delayed his return to action with Spurs expecting him to be match-fit in mid-October.

Having been omitted from the Wales squad for upcoming fixtures against England, Ireland and Bulgaria, Bale has been putting the work in at Hotspur Way – much to the delight of Spurs fans.

Following Bale’s return to north London, Spurs boss Jose Mourinho said he was confident the forward would be ready to return ahead of schedule.

Mourinho told Standard Sport: "I don't know when Gareth can be back. The only thing I know is that his motivation is high. He's so happy to be with the club of his heart, he's so happy to play for us.

"And when a player has this motivation, many times you can short [reduce] the period of recovery, you can short the period of getting fit and ready to play.

"We're more than happy to have him and help him back to a level that made him one of the best players in the world."
