Flash Floods Cause Structural Damage Across Central West Virginia

Flash floods caused structural damage across central West Virginia on Monday, August 15, according to local news reports.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department said multiple roads in the region were closed, and local news reported that over 100 homes were damaged in Kanawha County.

This footage filmed in Smithers, West Virginia, shows floodwaters rushing through a damaged road, according to the source.

“The culvert has caused the road to buckle,” read a caption accompanying the post.

The Smithers Fire Department said a shelter has been set up for those impacted by the floods.

The National Weather Service forecasted “unsettled weather” through the week with daily afternoon showers and thunderstorm possibilities. It also warned of possible flash flooding in the afternoon today. Credit: Gauley River VFD via Storyful
