Flood situation 'critical' in India's Assam

STORY: People in Bongaigaon city were forced to move to higher grounds with their belongings as floodwaters gushed into their homes.

Flood-affected people who were shifted to the government camps complained of a lack of basic facilities.

At least 26 people have been killed in Assam since heavy rains began around a fortnight ago.

India and Bangladesh, which is also reeling under catastrophic flooding, have experienced increasing extreme weather in recent years, causing large-scale damage, and environmentalists warn that climate change could lead to more disasters.
