Florida man captured after robbing MS Coast bank with letter demanding money, police say

Police arrested a suspect who authorities say walked into a Biloxi bank late Monday afternoon, handed employees a letter demanding money and fled.

The suspect, dressed in a red hoodie and jeans, took an “undisclosed” amount of money from a bank in the 600 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard, police said. He fled on foot toward Beach Boulevard, police Sgt. Candace Young said.

Jonathan Bernard Sampson, 37, of Florida was booked into the Harrison County jail just after 8:30 p.m., jail records show. He faces one count of robbery.

Officers arrested Sampson and recovered the money as evidence, Young said. Police do not believe Sampson was armed.

Biloxi Police would not disclose the amount of money allegedly stolen or the bank Sampson is accused of taking it from.

Sampson had no prior arrest record in Biloxi, Young said.

His bond is set at $250,000.
