Following letter from LeBron's company, Alabama's video series has a new name

Alabama’s video series with former players is continuing, just like Nick Saban said. But it’s got a new name.

The football program released the second episode in a series originally titled “Shop Talk” on Wednesday night. What was once Shop Talk is now “Bama Cuts” based on the name given to Wednesday’s episode.

Last week, representatives from LeBron’s digital media company sent Alabama a letter with copyright concerns because the Cleveland Cavaliers star has a similar show titled “The Shop,” that centers around discussions in a barbershop.

The letter wasn’t full of fire and brimstone; it asked Alabama to have a conversation about the show. And that conversation appears to have happened.

Earlier this week, Saban said he wasn’t aware of what James was doing and that the school was continuing to do the program.

“No, I don’t have a reaction to (the letter),” Saban said. “I think LeBron James is a great player. There’s been at least 20 barbershop-type things I’ve seen on TV. I didn’t know anybody owned that. I didn’t even know he had one. I’m sorry that anybody could be offended by something that we were just having fun with. I enjoyed it, and we’re going to continue to do it.”

It’s important to note that James’ company wasn’t taking issue with the concept but rather the branding. But hey, the upside in all of this for Alabama — and James — is that more people know about Alabama’s show than they would have otherwise. The school can’t be unhappy about that.
