Football Roundup: Atwater routs Buhach Colony in Bloss Bowl victory to open CCC play

Atwater High School receiver Landon Perez caught two touchdowns and rushed for another score as the Falcons defeated Buhach Colony 40-7 in Bloss Bowl XVIII on Friday night at Dave Honey Stadium.

The Falcons scored the final 34 points of the game after trailing 7-6 early in the Central California Conference opener for both teams.

Perez hauled in a 16-yard touchdown pass from AJ Banks to give Atwater (3-2) a 13-7 lead with 2:13 left in the second quarter.

The Falcons tacked on another touchdown late in the first half as Banks caught a touchdown pass from James Bell with 9 seconds left to extend the lead to 20-7.

Perez added a 17-yard touchdown run and a 4-yard touchdown catch from James Bell in the second half.

Bell threw three touchdown passes for the Falcons.

Buhach Colony dropped to 0-5 on the season. The Thunder still lead the all-time series against Atwater 12-6.

Central Valley 10, El Capitan 0 — The Gauchos opened up CCC play with a second straight loss after a 3-0 start to the season.

El Capitan was shutout for the second straight week.

Central Valley’s Tristan Villicana scored the only touchdown of the game on a 1-yard touchdown run to give the Hawks a 7-0 lead with 4:18 left in the first quarter.

Brian Rochin added a field goal in the fourth quarter for the final 10-0 margin of the victory.

Los Banos 33, Beyer 0 — Tigers running back Joel Alvarenga rushed for 179 yards and a touchdown as Los Banos opened Western Athletic Conference play with a dominant win over the Patriots.

Tigers quarterback David Herrera added 125 rushing yards and a touchdown and two passing touchdowns, connecting with Adam Aguilar twice for scores.

Johansen 28, Pacheco 26 (OT) — The Vikings stopped the Panthers two-point conversion in overtime to pick up the win in the WAC opener for both teams.

Pacheco running back Abel Bravo scored three touchdowns in the game, including the Panthers’ overtime score.

Orestimba 49, Le Grand 36 — Warriors running back Juan Esquivez rushed for four touchdowns to hand the Bulldogs (4-1) their first loss of the season.

Le Grand quarterback Diego Martinez threw for three touchdowns and ran for another score. Martinez connected on two touchdown passes to Miguel Moreno.

Chowchilla 53, Yosemite 6 — Tribe quarterback Davion Stephenson threw for three touchdowns and ran for another score as Chowchilla improved to 2-0 in the Northwest Sierra League and 3-1 overall.

Stephenson connected with Martin Villagomez on two touchdown passed and another scoring strike with Dellvonta Vaughn.

Chowchilla’s Rashaun Belaski had two fumble recoveries and Andre Pulliam had an interception.
