England fans were looking forward to football (sort of) coming home this summer, with Wembley in line to play a big role in hosting the 2020 European Championships.

The national stadium was due to host seven games, including both semi-finals and the final, but will have to wait another year for that honour after Uefa postponed the tournament because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Fear not, however, because to fill the void ITV are transporting the nation’s football fans back to the dreamy summer of 1996, when England last hosted a major international football tournament and the refrain that has become the soundtrack to every campaign since was born out of Baddiel, Skinner and the Lightning Seeds’ hit ‘Three Lions’.

ITV will be showing all 31 games from Euro '96 in full across its ITV Hub and ITV 4 platforms. So if you want Gazza and the dentist’s chair, the S.A.S. drubbing the Dutch and even an England penalty shootout win, Psycho’s redemption and all, they’ve got you covered.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper summer of football without some England heartache, so there’ll be all the agony of Gareth Southgate’s penalty miss and the semi-final exit against Germany, too.

Paul Mortimer, Head of Digital Channels & Acquisitions, ITV said: “Nothing brings the country together like Euro fever, and with this year’s tournament postponed to 2021, we’re giving our audience a chance to relive one of the all-time great sporting events, Euro ’96. Thanks to the ITV Hub and ITV4, there’ll be no shortage of vintage football classics for fans to indulge in over the next few months.”
