During the announcement event surrounding Ford’s return to F1 alongside Red Bull Racing on Friday, the Blue Oval outlined the ways in which motorsports continue to impact its products. One graphic from the presentation has sparked particular interest from fans, as it hints towards a high-performance F-150 Lightning serving as the basis for the brand’s next EV concept.

The graphic in questions is broken up into four parts. The first is focused on the S650 generation Mustang and the racing series that it will join, including NASCAR, ISMA, and SRO. Another takes a look at Ford’s involvement in off-road motorsports, with a Bronco logo on full display in the center. Sitting beneath the logo sits a silhouette of a truck, which resembles the upcoming Ranger Raptor. The third slot details the tech transfer potential related to the F1 deal with Red Bull. The final part of the graphic details Ford’s previous EV demonstrator vehicles, with the silhouette of an F-150 Lightning at the center.

The demo car selection includes the Mustang Mach-E 1400, which utilizes seven electric motors to provide 1400 horsepower to all four wheels. The Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 is featured as well, which is capable of laying down 8-second quarter-mile passes. The F100 Eluminator Concept is the only other truck on the graphic, and is by far the least powerful of the bunch with only 480 hp on tap. The same can’t be said for the 1972-horsepower Ford SuperVan 4 Concept, which is capable of 0-60 mph runs in less than two seconds. Almost all of these concepts feature more than 1000 horsepower, which suggests exciting things are coming to the F-150 Lightning platform.

Ford hasn’t given any hints as to when we can expect this new F-150 Lightning concept to arrive, or what the upgrade package might entail. That said, the truck’s own name might be a good hint at what we can expect. The second-generation F-150 Lightning was a genuine street truck, equipped with a raucous supercharged V-8 engine and lowered suspension. Perhaps Ford will take another lesson from its back catalog and give us a speed-oriented take on the electric Lighting. Here’s hoping some of the upgrades find their way down to the production truck, unlike any of the prior EV demo vehicles.
