Just weeks after heavy rains caused flooding problems in the Greater Toronto Area, the region is set to get soaked again, Environment Canada says.

The agency has issued a special weather statement for areas including Toronto, Mississauga, Oshawa, Oakville, Vaughan and Brampton, calling for rainfall amounts up to 50 millimetres starting Thursday evening.

"A low pressure system is expected to give heavy rainfall in parts of southwestern Ontario and the Golden Horseshoe this evening through Friday," the statement reads.

"Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible."

Last month, parts of the city saw more than 100 millimetres of rainfall in a torrential downpour that flooded homes, streets and major highways including the Don Valley Parkway and Gardiner Expressway.

At the height of that storm, 167,000 Toronto Hydro customers were without power.
