This former magician's warehouse in London is a lesson in open-plan living
This converted warehouse in Barnes, London, has just entered the property market for the first time as a residential dwelling.
Glentham Road was built by the famous American magician, Chung Ling Soo, who used it to store his stage props before transporting them on a flatbed truck up to the West End. He was best known for his signature act, 'Defying the Bullets', but sadly died in 1918 after one of his tricks went wrong.
Spanning three floors, the renovated house is currently arranged as two separate apartments. It boasts three bedrooms and bathrooms, two reception rooms, and an impressive roof terrace with views over the river.
The open-plan kitchen/living/dining space is a lesson in togetherness. Flooded with natural light, highlights here include the original parquet flooring, an internal crittall-style window (this divides the living area from the bedroom located opposite), and refreshing white walls which make the whole space feel brighter.
Elsewhere, a separate external door opens into a ground floor hallway with a staircase up to the first floor landing. Here, there's a guest cloakroom, spacious reception room, and a large rear balcony complete with scenic views. The generous principle bedroom, complete with well-designed wardrobe space, sits on the top floor of the house. Head up another set of stairs and the impressive decked roof terrace will take your breath away.
'It's always exciting when you bring a property to the market for the first time, particularly given that up until recent years Glentham Road was used solely as a warehouse,' says Same Bide, head of Sales in Savills Barnes office.
'Finished to high standards and currently used as two separate dwellings, the home would lend itself to a buyer that is perhaps looking to make some additional income or a buy to let opportunity, whilst making the most of its quiet cul-de-sac location.'
This property is currently on the market for £2,500,000 with Savills.
