Fort Lauderdale high school locked down after report of armed man in area, police say

Stranahan High School in Fort Lauderdale was temporarily locked down Monday morning after police said they received a call about an armed man near the school.

Fort Lauderdale Police got a call about 10:22 a.m. about an armed man who possibly fled into a home around the 1800 block of Southwest Ninth Street. When they arrived, the man, whom police did not identify, appeared to be having a mental health crisis, police said. He was not armed, police said.

Stranahan High School, located a few blocks away at 1800 Southwest Fifth Place in Fort Lauderdale, has since returned to regular operation. The investigation is ongoing.
