Fort MacLeod emergency department to close temporarily due to doctor shortage
The emergency department of the health centre in Fort MacLeod, Alta., will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, says Alberta Health Services.
The reason for the closure of Fort MacLeod Health Centre is a "lack of physician coverage," AHS said in a release on Monday evening.
According to the statement, EMS calls will be redirected to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, 49 kilometres away. Patients seeking emergency care will be able to access services at Pincher Creek Health Centre, Cardston Health Centre or Chinook Regional Hospital.
"During the temporary closure, nursing staff will remain on-site to provide care for long-term residents," said the release.
"We are thankful for the support of surrounding health-care centres and medical staff and would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding during this time."
