Fort Worth police arrest murder suspect in shooting death of 23-year-old man
Fort Worth police have arrested a suspect in a shooting that killed a man on Aug. 18 when a fight broke out among a large group of people gathered outside a strip mall.
Kevonte Williams, 28, was booked into the city jail on Monday on suspicion of murder in the death of 23-year-old Jacouryan Johnson.
Police have said that officers found the victim near the intersection of Miller Avenue and Hardeman Street around 1:45 a.m. on Aug. 18.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by the Star-Telegram, witnesses told police that the incident began with a fight between two women. Then a man became involved in a fight with one of the women, and someone doused the crowd with pepper spray, a detective wrote in the affidavit.
Johnson wanted to fight the man who was involved in the altercation with the woman, witnesses told police. Investigators reviewed surveillance video of the fight, which showed Williams fire a single shot from a gun, shooting Johnson, according to the affidavit.
Johnson was shot in the chest, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. He was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital, where he died in an operating room.
