Fortifications rise in Rivne: Northern defense build-up underway

New defensive lines are being constructed along the border with Belarus in the north of the Rivne oblast, Oleksandr Koval, head of the Rivne Oblast Military Administration, announced on Facebook on March 13.

The work is being carried out in close coordination with the military.

“In the north of the oblast, we continue to equip the defense lines, with construction of non-explosive barriers and platoon strongholds ongoing.” Builders are currently engaged in earthworks and trench arrangement.

Koval emphasized that the work is progressing according to the approved schedule, highlighting it as a priority area.

On March 12, Bohdan Bondar, head of the State Special Transport Service of the Ministry of Defense, noted the challenges posed by spring weather but emphasized that fortification construction efforts persist daily.

Additionally, Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhya Military District, revealed a significant allocation of UAH 1.3 billion ($33.5 million) for fortification construction in Zaporizhzhya oblast, following a previous allocation of UAH 20 billion ($516 million) announced by Denys Shmyhal, Prime Minister of Ukraine.
