Four people injured after tree branch falls at Fitzroy Park wedding

Four people were taken to hospital Saturday afternoon after a tree branch fell on them during an outdoor wedding at Fitzroy Provincial Park.

Ontario Provincial Police said three women — ages 55, 58 and 31 — and a man, 56, were struck. Two of the people were in critical condition, but none suffered life-threatening injuries, said Tim O'Neill with Ottawa paramedics.

O'Neill was one of the first to arrive at the park, about 60 kilometres west of Ottawa along the Ottawa River, after the incident.

"A tree landed on a wedding party, a part of a tree I should say," he said. "We responded here with seven ambulances, four patients transported to the trauma unit."

He said one of the victims was unconscious upon arrival.

There were about 100 people celebrating the wedding at the park when the incident happened. Ontario Parks removed the tree and OPP and paramedics cleared the scene a few hours later.
