Fox News' coverage of Melania Trump's jacket is #hypocrisy according to Twitter
The jacket seen round the world certainly made headlines this week after first lady Melania Trump wore a green cargo jacket with bold white writing that read: “I really don’t care. Do you?”
The odd wardrobe choice would have probably been big news regardless of when the first lady wore it, but given that she was en route to Texas to visit a center housing migrant children, the jacket caused a major stir.
Nearly every media outlet in the country covered what’s now being called #jacketgate, but there was a stark difference in coverage depending on which news network you happened to be watching.
CNN’s Anderson Cooper was noticeably baffled by the choice, saying he thought the writing was a “joke,” Photoshopped on after the fact. Today show’s White House correspondent Peter Alexander said, “Nothing the former model does is accidental,” implying that the first lady was, in fact, sending a hidden message with the jacket.
In contrast, Fox News contributors on Your World brushed off the jacket, saying, “She didn’t wear it to the actual event.” Conservative social media stars Diamond and Silk said on Fox and Friends that Melania Trump’s wardrobe choice was not a mistake. “She just proved a point: just how dumb the left really is to be focusing on a jacket and wording instead of focusing on her actions.”
Fox News host Laura Ingraham of The Ingraham Angle is receiving quite a bit of backlash for her response to #jacketgate. During her show, Ingraham lightheartedly brushed off criticism of the first lady, calling the media’s coverage “mean girl treatment.”
Later, she tweeted a 9-year-old news article about a wardrobe choice of former first lady Michelle Obama. At the time, Obama was criticized for wearing a pair of designer sneakers while feeding the homeless at a soup kitchen in Washington, D.C.

Twitter users didn’t appreciate the comparison. Several were in disbelief with the response, while others pointed out the #hypocrisy in Ingraham’s tweet.

Nobody is now criticizing Melania for wearing expensive clothes, they are critical of her wearing an insensitive jacket which said #IDontReallyCareDoU . It is like a big slap on the face of people who care about children.

I have no interest in the cost of a First Lady’s wardrobe. I didn’t see a message written on Michelle’s shoes. This was a tone deaf misstep by Melania, not often seen wearing a $39 jacket. A msg was printed on her jacket & was worn w/temps in the 80s. It distracted from her trip.

Melania Trump’s spokesperson Stephanie Grisham insisted in a statement there was “no hidden message” behind the jacket. President Trump, however, expressed the opposite in a tweet, saying the message referenced the “fake news media.”
The first lady herself has said nothing regarding #jacketgate.
