Fraser-Nicola students "vote" for NDP's Sumexheltza

More than 700 elementary and high schools around the province took part in a mock election last week as part of the Student Vote BC program.

All 87 electoral districts within the province were represented by the more than 85,000 students who cast votes.

According to CIVIX, a non-partisan charitable organization which organizes Student Vote in collaboration with Elections BC:

The results also included two ties. In the electoral district of Kelowna-Lake Country the BC Green Party tied with the BC NDP and in Shuswap the BC Liberal party tied with the BC NDP.

In Fraser-Nicola, in which 15 schools participated, Aaron Sumexheltza, NDP was elected with 35.65% of the vote, followed by Jonah Timms of the Green Party with 26.38% of the vote. Jackie Tegart of the BC Liberal Party garnered 22.61% of the vote, while Independents Dennis Adamson and Mike Bhangu netted 8.70% and 6.67%, respectively.

This was the sixth annual Student Vote BC.
