Maureen, 75, needs the Flintstones to back off if she has any chance of selling her van.
The Perth, Ont., resident discovered something strange nine months ago when she tried to sell her vehicle to a car dealership, CTV reports. According to very real, legal documents, debtors by the names of Fred and Pebbles Flintstone of 9 Yellow Brick Road, Markham, are claiming they have the rights to possession of Maureen’s van.
For the sale to go through, either the fictional Bedrock characters need to cancel the liens or the government needs to amend the documents. Maureen had to go to Ontario MPP Randy Hillier for help after she got nowhere with Service Ontario.
“The answer that [Maureen] got back from everybody was that [she] had to go to court, had to engage the services of a lawyer, to fix up what is so obviously, and so clearly a total muck-up,” CTV Toronto reported.
The lien may have been created as part of a system test by Service Ontario, because the registering agent is listed as “PPSR Test Data1.”
CTV Toronto reports Tracy MacCharles, Ontario’s Minister of Government and Consumer Services is on the case. “I’ve just learned about it, we’re on top of it,” she said. “I want to get to the bottom of it.”
The documents also show other vehicle numbers under liens from the Flintstones, so don’t take it for granite that your own vehicle is safe.
