Fredericton police respond to 2 break and enters, attempted taxi robbery

The Fredericton Police were busy overnight as officers responded to two attempted break and enters, an attempted robbery with a taxi cab and shot gun blasts late Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning.

The first incident happened shortly after 9:30 p.m., when police responded to a north side residence, after reports of gun shots inside the house.

Heidi Cyr, spokeswoman for the Fredericton Police Force, said nine-millimetre shells were also found at the house and a male suspect took off on foot.

Cyr would not release any further details about any injuries or what kind of weapon was used.

The next incident happened shortly after 3 a.m. when a male attempted to break the window of a taxi cab using a crowbar at the Irving gas station on King Street. The male suspect was demanding money but the window didn't break.

The suspect eventually fled the scene with a black vehicle.

Members of the forensic identification unit were called out to the scene. Cyr would not say whether anyone was hurt.

Shortly after 4 a.m. there was an attempted break in at a north side residence in St. Mary's First Nation.

Three suspects were nabbed by police at the intersection of Fieldstone Court and Cliffe Street and are in custody.

The forensic identification services were called out.

Cyr said the home invasion was in connection with the incident at the Irving gas station.

Shortly before 6 a.m. there was a forced entry inside a home on the city's north side.

Cyr said there were three armed males involved in the break-in. One of the suspects struck another male in the home with a weapon.

Cyr would not release what type of weapon was used and whether there were injuries involved.

The suspects fled on foot, heading towards the Royal Road.

Fredericton's major crime team, canine unit, emergency response team and the forensic identification team were called to the scene.

Cyr would not provide any further details about the incidents, as the investigations are ongoing.

"This is as much as we can release at this time," she said.
