Fredericton singer-songwriter to open for k.d lang

A Fredericton singer-songwriter has been given a "landmark" career opportunity to open for one of Canada's most iconic artists.

Brittany McQuinn, formerly known as Whisper Roaring, will open for singer k.d lang in September in Moncton.

McQuinn was notified via email that she would share the stage with the legendary singer.

"I was in a waiting room at the time, and I was kind of killing time refreshing my emails when I saw [I'd been chosen,]" said McQuinn. "It was the most rewarding email refreshing that I've ever had."

McQuinn said the news left her in shock.

"These things are a landmark in careers, and I don't think I'll ever forget reading that email," said McQuinn.

McQuinn won't just be opening for lang, she will also be debuting new material at the show. Her album Bold is scheduled to be released later this year, in time for her Moncton set.

McQuinn said the forthcoming EP's meaning is twofold.

"It's about shedding these expectations that we put on ourselves about what others think," McQuinn said. "And the other thing is I'm using it as [a] mental health advocacy piece."

McQuinn will be busy over the summer, making sure she is ready for the Moncton show.

"The goal is to have [the EP] released approximately a month before and then doing a few shows to kind of ... get my feet wet," said McQuinn.

"It'll be a year in August since I played live."

McQuinn and k.d lang will perform Sept. 7 at Casino New Brunswick.
