Free things to do with the kids in Ottawa this weekend

This weekend in Ottawa is not just for the runners: whether it's celebrating Indigenous culture, building with Lego or seeing a concert, there are a few unique and free options for the whole family.

Odawa Pow Wow

This year marks the 41st Annual Odawa Pow Wow. The annual powwow run by the Odawa Native Friendship Centre is a celebration of Indigenous culture in Ottawa.

Odawa's Pow Wow runs from Saturday to Sunday and it includes competition powwow dancing and singing on both days.

There's also an arts-and-crafts market featuring clothing, art, sculptures and Indigenous cuisine.

Entry is free, although you can make a donation at the entrance. The event is open to everyone.

- When: May 27 and 28. Gates open at 10 a.m.

- Where: 200 Moodie Drive, next to Highway 417 (Queensway).

Everything is Awesome

On Saturday night, Sparks Street between O'Connor and Metcalfe will be host to a different kind of block party: one devoted to all things Lego.

Capital Pop-Up Cinema and the Sparks Street BIA will be hosting a screening of The Lego Movie, starting at 8 p.m.

On top of the movie screening, you can also:

- Join a contest to show off your Lego building skills.

- Meet members of ParLUGment, a Lego user's group, and get tips from the experts.

And it's all free — including the popcorn!
