Free things to do with the kids this weekend in Ottawa

Even though the mercury will dip this weekend, here are some family friendly events you may find it worth bundling up for.

35th annual St. Patrick's Day parade

When: Saturday, March 11, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: Begins at Ottawa City Hall and ends at Lansdowne Park.

The parade will make its way from Ottawa City Hall and travel west on Laurier Avenue, turn left on Bank Street and end at Marché Way near Lansdowne Park, where businesses will remain open. Roads will reopen as the parade passes.

Open Doors, Open Hearts

When: Saturday, March 11, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Ottawa Muslim Association, 251 Northwestern Ave.

This free event aims to educate people about Islam and Canadian Muslims. There will be refreshments handmade by Syrian refugees, henna, a kids play area, face paint and a mosque tour available.

Call to Prayer

When: Saturday, March 11 and Sunday, March 12. Begins at 11:30 a.m. and runs every 30 minutes continuously until March 12 at 3:30 p.m.
Where: 7 Bayview Rd.

The event features a sonic installation that draws on the traditions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The voices of three local vocal artists are played through speakers and intertwine to create an immersive aural experience.
