Freezing rain warning over in Ottawa, Gatineau

Snow showers and freezing rain threatened to make for a treacherous commute in Ottawa and Gatineau, and across north and eastern Ontario and west Quebec on Thursday morning.

Some school buses outside of the capital were cancelled due to the weather, including all buses for French Pembroke schools, all buses for English schools in Renfrew County and some Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario buses.

Environment Canada issued a freezing rain warning in Ottawa and Gatineau overnight and Thursday morning, which was over by 10 a.m.

Freezing rain or snow warnings for a large stretch of north and eastern Ontario, beginning from Kapuskasing down to Blind River and moving east into west Quebec down to Ottawa and Smiths Falls were also issued.

By 10 a.m., the temperature rose to 1 C in Ottawa and is expected to reach a high of 13 C.
