Freezing rain warning issued for northern N.B. tonight

Tuesday will start off sunny and cool across New Brunswick but clouds will move in late this morning, bringing flurries and freezing rain overnight.

Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for the northern half of New Brunswick with ice pellets expected early this evening, changing over to freezing rain late in the evening.

"The freezing rain is expected to persist for several hours overnight then change to rain by Wednesday morning," said the statement.

Brennan Allen, a CBC meteorologist, said the freezing rain should be light, and temperatures will warm up overnight as southeast winds strengthen.

"On Wednesday, by mid-morning, all areas will be into much milder air with showers, periods of light rain and fog patches," Allen said.

Rainfall accumulations on Wednesday will be between 10 to 20 millimetres across the province, with only 5 to 10 millimetres in eastern New Brunswick

Temperatures will cool off on Thursday so that daytime highs on Friday are only expected to reach 0 C.
