Freezing rain warning on P.E.I.

Freezing rain warnings lifted, high winds force Confederation Bridge restrictions

Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for P.E.I.

The warning, in effect for all three counties, says an extended period of freezing rain will impact the Island Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

"A trough of low pressure approaching from the southwest will spread light snow or ice pellets into the province this evening," the warning reads.

"The precipitation will change to freezing rain overnight. Freezing rain is expected to change to rain showers Wednesday morning as temperatures rise."

Environment Canada warns surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Motorists are asked to adjust their driving accordingly.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

The high temperature Wednesday is forecast to be 9 C.
