Want to hear something crazy? It’s been 23 days, and Netflix still hasn’t renewed Stranger Things for Season 3.

A third season for Netflix’s breakout show has been widely, widely discussed, even before Season 2 hit the streaming site. The Duffer Brothers, Matt and Ross, have made it clear that they have a grand plan in mind, one that might span four or five seasons (they chance how many seasons they want almost on a daily basis). So while everyone talks like Season 3 is happening, Netflix hasn’t ~officially~ given it the go-ahead, which means that right now, there is no Stranger Things Season 3.

That’s the real definition of a world turned upside down.

But, even though it’s not official, the Duffer Brothers are already working on it — you know, should it happen.

During the Vulture Fest in Los Angeles this weekend, the brothers were asked if Kali (Eleven’s powerful sister) would return for Season 3, which led Ross to slip out, “We are [in] very early days on Season 3 and we’re still figuring it out,”before immediately following up with, “I probably wasn’t supposed to say that. But we’re talking about what Season 3 will look like. That’s not official, that wasn’t an official announcement.”

However, the damage had already been done, as the crowd (full of Finn Wolfhard Fans, and I can say that first hand because they were sitting behind me and s-c-r-e-a-m-i-n-g for most of the panel) erupted into cheers.

Matt also jumped in, trying to smooth things over and explained that they “haven’t even gotten the officially announcement,” and Ross added that the two are working on a potential Season 3, “just for our own amusement…for fun!” Sure boys, sure.

So leave it to Finn Wolfhard to really diffuse the situation, quipping to the full audience, “Maybe if you guys like it, there will be a third season!”

Oh, and yes, should Season 3 happen (lolz), you can bet that Kali will be back. As Matt told the crowd: “It would feel weird that we would’n’t resolve that storyline. Chances are high that she comes back.”

Bottom line: We all know Stranger Things Season 3 is coming back — but no one’s fessing up to it just yet. Your announcement move, Netflix.
