On the first day of this decade, Friends became unavailable on Netflix. The show's massive following had a definite freakout when this news broke last summer, but they might not have to be without Monica, Joey, Rachel, Ross, Phoebe, and Chandler for long. In November 2019, reports of a possible HBO Max reunion first surfaced, which results in questioning for anyone who could be at all connected to the project.

One person is Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman, who had just a few questions coming at her at the 2020 Producers Guild Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday.

When Entertainment Tonight's Lauren Zima asked Kauffman if she knew if this reunion was actually happening, Kauffman had a straight answer for her: "I don't know. I really don't know," she said.

She went on after more questioning: "If it happens, we will certainly be involved in it," she said, likely referring to her co-creator, David Crane. "But I don't know."

Why is it so hard to figure this one out? "It's complicated. It's very complicated," Kauffman said, adding that it wasn't just getting the busy cast back together that could be an issue; there are a lot of challenging elements. "It's everything. It's a very complicated thing to do."

Kauffman is not the only one who is cautious to say anything definite about the project. HBO Max's Chief Creative Officer Kevin Reilly also spoke about it last week—at the Television Critics Association press tour. "There is interest all around and yet we can’t get the interests all alighted to push the button on it," he said. "Today it’s just maybe."
